Edgar was a cricketeer and administrator for Hunslet C. F & A Club. He was born in 1892 or 3 to David and Mary Ann, and had a sister Gladys. They all lived at 26, Ingleton Terrace, Beeston Hill. By the time of the 1911 Census, he was a teacher. He was called-up on 1 Nov, 1915, and joined the Royal Army Medical Corps. These men were unarmed, driving ambulances, treating the wounded and sick at the front or looking after casualties back in England. By the end of the war, the RAMC had patched up over 1,500,000 wounded and returned them to active service. Meeks joined up at Aldershot and rose to the rank of Lance Corporal then Sergeant. He was discharged to his parents, now in Parkfield Mount, in Feb 1919. It was suggested he take up clerical work in civvies and was granted 8/- per week for 41 weeks due to being 20% disabled. He carried on his job as teacher, becoming Headmaster of Beulah St School. He died in 1968.
