Boys teams have been playing for the Goldthorpe Cup since the early 1900's. In 2018 Albert Goldthorpe's descendants decided to support a competition for girls. The aim was to ensure that girls got the same opportunities as boys and also to bring the name of Leeds' first sporting superstar, and his brothers, further links to the present day game and to a new generation of players and supporters.
